    The Yard

    The Yard

    ohhhhh the yard.
This place is a curse,I cannot count the hours i have spent in the bck yard with Samwise digging and shaping the place.
I have always been an obsessive person,Link that with the fact that i LOVE driving Diggers and building new stuff to ride and you start to get the amount of time that has been put into this project. When Me,Gee and Sam hire a digger, nobody gets any sleep. That machine works hard.
The yard has been influenced by so many different people and ideas, but mostly influenced by the weather.
We first started by digging huge draining pits and running soak away pipes all over the place.we then built the basic track and shaped it up to pretty much how we wanted it,we then spent two days driving up and down from the local quarry bringing stone and hardcore up to surface it.we then whacker platted it to the perfect shape we wanted.we then brought in limestone dust for the final track surface. Then we rode it,didnt like it,tore it down, and rebuilt it,still didnt like it,tore it down and rebuilt it till we got it right.
We then built two huge wooden ramps in the center of the track and built a load of wooden Quarter pipes in there as well, there was just so many ideas and not enough room,so we tryed to just build as much as possible into something that flows and is amazing to ride.
The pictures you see here are the best it has ever been and we will be shooting a section for our new web cast “The Atherton Project” on it soon. I will keep you updated on changes but everyone will have the chance to ride it at the Murrey jam we will be holding this year as a fund raiser for Bringing Steven back for the Jam at Jasons.

    Beach Cruzing

    Beach Cruzing

I guess with this being my first Blog i should start by explaining who Dan Atherton is…

I find it amazing that people are drawn to different things, for me it has always been things with wheels, for as long as i can remember my life has revolved around wheels. From as early as about 3 i was wobbling around on a little bike, That soon progressed to riding BMX bikes around,I then got into motorbikes but thats where things changed,I realized that i didnt just want to ride bikes i wanted to Race them.
I was about 12 and from that point on i have never looked back. Racing now takes me around the world and has become the job that that wobbly three year old dreamed of.
I now live in Llangynog in North Wales but spend most of my time in Santa Cruz,California with my Girlfriend Lesley. The two places could not be more different. I sometimes catch myself wondering how the boy who used to spend the majority of his time up a welsh mountain driving a digger in the pissing rain and snow,is now riding a beach cruiser in the sun wearing white jeans. It does sometimes get a little surreal but i think i have found the balance.Maybe i am just going soft.
